History of the Tabernacle

First Tabernacle, Church of God and Saints of Christ has been in Cleveland for over 100 years.  Its presence in the city began in 1904 with Elder David Rochester and he served as the pastor until the late 1940s. Elder William Palmer then served as the pastor from that time until 1953, when Rabbi William E. Stewart took over the reins of leadership. Rabbi Stewart was a stalwart pastor who labored for over 50 years. After his passing in 2005, his son Elder H. Obadiah Stewart became the pastor.  During the Passover of 2018, Evangelist Michael I. Norris was appointed Local Pastor of the Cleveland tabernacle.

The church has resided in a number of locations on the east side of the city of Cleveland and was located at 8117 Woodland Avenue for about 40 years.  Starting with the Beginning of Sabbath Service of December 18, 2015, First Tabernacle Church of God and Saints of Christ began worshiping at 3561 Independence Road, located in the South Broadway Slavic Village neighborhood of Cleveland. This facility is easily accessible from Interstate 77.
